Explore Scientific

One Manufacturer, a Complete Observing System

Explore Scientific build across the whole range — the telescope, the mount it sits on, the eyepieces you look through and the case it travels in. That matters more than it sounds: the dovetails match, the focusers take the same accessories, and the eyepiece series share eye relief so swapping between them does not mean re-finding the eye position every time.

The line runs from a $99 National Geographic-class starter reflector up to a 150mm ED giant binocular, taking in the Hoya FCD1 and FCD100 apochromatic refractors, the classic solid-tube Dobsonians, the PMC-Eight GoTo mounts and the 62° through 120° waterproof eyepiece series along the way.

We are an authorized dealer. Everything on this page is new stock with the manufacturer's warranty, and we will tell you plainly when a cheaper model in the range is the better buy.

Explore Scientific questions, answered

What we get asked about the brand.

Are you an authorized Explore Scientific dealer?

Yes. Everything on this page is new stock supplied through Explore Scientific, boxed, and carrying the manufacturer's limited warranty. That warranty is activated by registering the product within 60 days of purchase.

What is the difference between Essential Series and FCD100?

Both are air-spaced triplet apochromats. The Essential Series uses Hoya FCD1 glass; the FCD100 series uses Hoya FCD100, which controls colour more tightly. On the Moon and bright planets the FCD100 shows less residual colour, and for imaging it gives a cleaner star field. For visual use at moderate magnification the difference is real but modest.

Which eyepiece series should I buy into?

The 62° series is the value sweet spot and has long eye relief, which matters if you wear glasses. The 82° series is the classic wide-field choice and is particularly good on an undriven Dobsonian, where a wider apparent field means longer between nudges. The 100° and 120° are immersive but heavy and expensive.

Do Explore Scientific mounts work with other brands' telescopes?

Generally yes. The saddles are Vixen-style, which most small and mid-size tubes use. Saddle depth does vary between manufacturers, so send us both models and we will confirm before you order.

What if something arrives damaged?

Tell us within a few days and we handle it. Everything ships free, and the warranty is the manufacturer's, not a store policy we can quietly decline to honour.

Where to go next
