Pressure Tuned Solar Detail From 50mm

The Lunt LS50THa pairs a 50 mm doublet optimized at 656 nm with an internal dedicated etalon, so it arrives as a complete hydrogen alpha telescope with nothing else to source before first light. A 350 mm focal length at f/7 keeps the tube short enough to travel with while still resolving prominences on the limb and the larger active regions on the disk.

Tuning uses the Lunt Pressure Tuner, a barometric system that shifts the passband by changing air pressure inside the etalon housing rather than by tilting glass. That keeps the image evenly tuned from one edge of the disk to the other, and the adjustment is fine enough to bring up filaments and surface texture that a coarse tilt would move straight past.

Single stack bandpass sits below 0.6 Angstrom, and a double stack module takes it below 0.4 Angstrom when you want the highest surface contrast. A CNC clamshell with a Vixen style dovetail bolts to most small mounts, and the 4 mm blocking filter diagonal with the 1.25 inch mini helical focuser accepts standard eyepieces and small cameras.

Lunt LS50THa 50mm hydrogen alpha solar telescope with pressure tuner and clamshell mount

Key Features

  • Pressure Tuning - the Lunt Pressure Tuner shifts the passband barometrically for even tuning right across the disk.
  • Dedicated Etalon - an internal dedicated etalon in UV grade fused silica, centered on 656.28 nm.
  • Bandpass - under 0.6 Angstrom single stack, dropping under 0.4 Angstrom with a double stack module fitted.
  • Compact Focal Ratio - f/7 at 350 mm keeps the tube short and pairs well with short focal length eyepieces.
  • Clamshell Mounting - a CNC clamshell and Vixen style dovetail drop onto most small equatorial or alt-azimuth mounts.
  • Blocking Filter Options - a 4 mm diagonal ships as standard with a 6 mm diagonal available, both at 6 Angstrom bandpass.
