Safe White Light Views Of The Photosphere
This white light solar wedge from Lunt is a Herschel design that diverts the vast majority of incoming sunlight out the back of the housing, sending only a small, safe fraction to your eyepiece. A built in ND3 filter completes the light reduction, so you get high contrast views of the photosphere, sunspots and granulation.
Use this wedge on refractors only. Never fit it to a catadioptric or reflecting telescope, where trapped heat can damage the instrument and injure you. The 1.25 inch model performs best on refractors up to 4 inches of aperture, and the 2 inch model performs best on refractors of 6 inches or less.
Each wedge ships with the ND3 filter pre installed, a carrying case and die cut foam with room for accessories. If you can reach focus with a standard star diagonal on your night time refractor, you will reach focus here too. Add a Lunt polarizing filter to dim the image further for comfortable visual observing.
