Lunt LS50THa Solar Telescope Complete Solar Bundle
Watch solar flares, prominences, and surface detail erupt in real time — safely. This bundle pairs Lunt’s dedicated LS50THa hydrogen-alpha solar telescope with everything needed to observe the Sun from day one: a solid alt-azimuth mount, a solar-tuned eyepiece, and the SunLock finder that aims you at the Sun without ever looking at it.
Why these work together
The LS50THa arrives as an optical tube with its etalon, pressure tuner, blocking filter diagonal and helical focuser — and nothing to stand it on, nothing to look through, and no safe way to point it. Those are precisely the three gaps this bundle fills, and with solar work the third one is not a convenience item.
You cannot sight along a tube at the Sun. The SunLock lets you aim the telescope by projection, so the Sun lands in the field without you ever putting your eye anywhere near the light path. It is the accessory that turns setup from a hazard into a ten-second job, and it is the one we would refuse to sell this telescope without.
The mount pairing is exact rather than approximate. The LS50THa’s CNC clamshell carries a Vixen-style dovetail and the Twilight I has a Vixen saddle, so the 7 lb tube drops straight on. Alt-azimuth is also the correct choice here, not a compromise: you cannot polar-align in daylight, and following the Sun by hand across an hour is effortless on smooth slow-motion controls.
At 350mm focal length the Lunt 12mm eyepiece gives 29x. The Sun is about half a degree across, so at that power the entire disk sits inside the field with clear space around the limb — which is where the prominences are. It is enough magnification to watch the view change as you work the pressure tuner, bringing filaments and surface texture up out of the disk, and low enough that the whole show stays in frame while you do it.
What’s in the bundle
- Lunt LS50THa 50mm H-Alpha Solar Telescope — B600 blocking filter with helical focuser, a true hydrogen-alpha instrument ($995.99)
- Explore Scientific Twilight I Alt-Azimuth Mount & Tripod — smooth, sturdy grab-and-go mount ($299.99)
- Lunt 12mm Solar Telescope Eyepiece — tuned for maximum solar contrast ($89.99)
- Lunt SunLock Solar Finder — align on the Sun safely, every time ($49.99)
The Sun is the one astronomical target you can observe every clear day — no dark skies, no late nights. This kit is solar observing, solved.
Why we build these bundles
We put these together for amateur astronomers who want to be sure they have the right equipment to do what they actually set out to do. Choosing the telescope is the easy part. The frustrating part comes three weeks later, on the one clear night of the month, when the eyepiece you need isn’t in the case, or the mount won’t hold the tube still enough to focus. Every bundle on this page is a complete, matched setup put together by people who observe: the right optics for the target, a mount that genuinely carries the tube, and the eyepieces that actually get used. Nothing padded out to raise the price, and nothing important left for you to discover later.
