Lunt LS80MT 80mm Universal Day & Night Solar Telescope
Eighty Millimeters Of Day And Night Aperture
The Lunt LS80MT builds a universal day and night telescope around an 80 mm FPL53 ED doublet that is precision aligned and coated with ion assist broadband AR. At 560 mm focal length and f/7 it carries a theoretical maximum magnification near 140x, which leaves you working room on solar active regions in the morning and on planets or globular clusters the same evening.
Fitted with the hydrogen alpha module and Doppler True pressure tuner, the tube observes the Sun with barometric fine tuning instead of tilt, so the passband stays even across the whole disk. Single stack bandpass is below 0.65 Angstrom, and adding a double stack module narrows it below 0.45 Angstrom for stronger contrast on filaments and surface structure.
Lifting the hydrogen alpha module off and fitting a focuser in its place converts the same optical tube into a conventional apochromatic style refractor for lunar, planetary, deep sky and terrestrial work. CNC mounting rings and a Vixen style dovetail handle attachment, a red dot sun finder handle speeds up acquisition, and an aluminum finished hard case protects the tube in transit.
Key Features
- FPL53 Doublet - an 80 mm precision aligned ED objective with ion assist broadband AR coating.
- Day And Night - converts between hydrogen alpha solar work and conventional refractor duty by swapping the front module.
- Pressure Tuning - Doppler True barometric pressure tuning replaces tilt for finer, more even control of the passband.
- Blocking Filters - 12 mm and 18 mm options in diagonal or straight through form, each at 6 Angstrom bandpass.
- Sun Finder Handle - a red dot sun finder is built into the carry handle for fast and safe target acquisition.
- Hard Case - an aluminum finished hard case with fitted foam is part of the standard package.
