The LS152T/BP&F is the backing plate and two inch Crayford focuser assembly for the Lunt LS152THa, the 152 mm hydrogen alpha solar telescope. The backing plate is the rear interface of the optical tube and the focuser mounts to it, so the two are supplied together as one part.
Its purpose is conversion. Remove the rear pressure tuned etalon section from the LS152THa and fit this plate and focuser in its place, and the same optical tube becomes a night time refractor. The Crayford is dual speed and takes two inch accessories, replacing the rack and pinion focuser the scope ships with.
This is a mechanical assembly with no filtering function. The LS152THa is a dedicated solar telescope whose safety comes from its own etalon and blocking filter system, and this plate carries no solar filtration of its own. With the etalon section removed the tube is a night telescope only, so never aim it at the Sun without correct certified solar filtration fitted and verified.
